Born in St Pancras, London, Henry William Hine also known as Harry, attended North London Collegiate and Philological School. He was enrolled in the merchant Navy but by the age of 26 he was living at home with his parents in London with his seven siblings, registered as a draughtsman. He went on to study at Accrington School of Art, the Royal Cambrian Academy and Académie Julien in Paris.
Hine was known as a landscape painter, capturing many rural scenes and studies of England's finest Cathedrals. He showed paintings at Birmingham Royal Society of Artists, Dudley Gallery, Dowdeswell Galleries, Fine Art Society, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts;, Liverpool Walker Art Gallery, Leicester Gallery, Manchester City Art Gallery, New Gallery and two watercolours at the Royal Society of British Artists.
