Description

An atmospheric watercolour of dusk falling over the Church of St Peter in Alstonefield. A warm glow fills the sky and can be seen through a window of the church. A figure sits with his head bowed to the left of the composition. Presented glazed in a green mount and wooden frame. Monogrammed to the lower-right corner. A label to the reverse includes details of the location and artist. On wove.

Condition

Some minor foxing and discolouration. Some very small scuffs to the frame but overall in excellent condition.

Artist Biography

Harry Goodwin was a painter and illustrator and the elder brother of the prominent landscape watercolourist Albert Goodwin RWA. His paintings are occasionally confused with those of his brother. Born in Maidstone, Kent he exhibited at the Lake Artists Society, RA, NWS and at the Walker's Gallery, London, holding solo exhibitions there in 1921 and 1924. An example of Harry Goodwin’s oeuvre is held by Maidstone Art Gallery.
