A large watercolour depicting the view over a well-trodden bridge to a cottage in the vale of Wycoller Dene, Lancashire. A farmer leans over a gate to the left of the painting, accompanied by a sheepdog at his heel. Seven bridges, including the one featured here, cross Wycoller Beck, with the oldest dating to the Neolithic era. The area is also home to the ruined Wycoller Hall, which is commonly presumed to have inspired Charlotte Bronte in her writing of 'Jane Eyre'. Well-presented in a washline mount and a thin gilt frame. Signed to the lower right edge. Inscribed with the date and title to the reverse. On watercolour paper.

Some minor scuffs to the frame but overall in fine condition.
