There is some mild discolouration to the varnish and some surface dirt. There is some wear around the edges from a previous frame. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Harold Goldthwait (1869-1932) was a landscape and genre artist who was born in Essex. He exhibited rural views of Southern England at the Royal Academy, RHA, Goupil Gallery, London Salon, ROI, and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. In 1903 he joined the Surrey Art Circle where he remained a member until 1909. He served on the committee and exhibited several paintings each year at their exhibitions, these included views of the South Downs and the Isle of Wight. Sophy Goldthwait, his wife, is recorded as having exhibited a painting at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool in 1915.
