Hans Schäufelein (1480-1540) - Original 1507 Woodcut. A woodcut illustration to Ulrich Pinder's 'Speculum Passionis domini nostri Ihesu christi....' which was printed in Nuremberg by Friedrich Peypus in 1507. It depicts Christ purifying the temple; lashing out with a scrouge, the money-lenders and traders fleeing. Provenance: M. Knoedler & Co, New York. Unsigned. On laid. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a 1cm tear to the lower edge.
