Artist Biography
Hanns Jatzlau (b.1926) studied at the Werkkunstschule, Hanover and then at the Academy of Fine Arts, Hamburg. He also studied zoology and botany. In 1960 he went from Hamburg to the Werkkunstschule as a teacher. As part of the exhibition "Painters See Our City" he won the Continental Prize in Hanover in 1954 and received a scholarship from the Vereinsbank Hamburg in the same year. He spent 1963/64 in Rome with a scholarship from the Villa Massimo. In 1974, Jatzlau was appointed professor at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences. In 1985, Jatzlau received the main prize of the Silesian Cultural Prize of the State of Lower Saxony. He still lives in Hanover.
