Workers gather hay into a wagon as the sun sets over the rolling countryside in this idyllic nineteenth-century pastoral scene. In a manner reminiscent of John Constable and George Morland, the artist presents a romanticised view of English rural life. Signed to the lower right. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration and craquelure. There is one small canvas tear repair and areas of overpainting. There are faint impressions from the stretchers. There is light wear to the frame, including some small losses and scuffing.
