Herbert Kerr Rooke (1872-1944) was a painter and printmaker. Rooke trained at the Royal College of Art and at the Slade School. He was known as a marine artist, a poster designer, and a woodcut artist. His colourful posters of Putney and Greenwich decorated London County Council Tramways during the interwar years. Born in Greenwich he was the nephew of the watercolourist Thomas Matthews Rooke and a cousin of the artist Noel Rooke.
He was an elected member of the RBA, RI, and also showed at the Goupil Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, the Royal Academy, and MAFA.
He is best remembered for his coastal views of Dorset, Hampshire, Sussex, and the West Country. An example of his poster design work is in the collection of the London Transport Museum and paintings by him are in the Hunterian Museum and Torre Abbey Museum.
