H. East (fl. 1890-1920) - Early 20th Century Oil, River Through The Hay Fields
Description
A delicate and softly painted oil landscape from the early 20th Century, showing a calm river curving away from the viewer, through hay fields. A loaded horse and cart, surrounded by figures can be seen, working on loading the rest of the hay onto the pile at the left bank. The fluffy white clouds are deftly reflected in the glassy river and darker brambles leaning over the bank in the foreground give the painting weight and form. The artist shows a skilled hand in the execution of this landscape. The artist has signed to the lower right and the painting has been attractively presented in a molded gilt effect frame with scrolling acanthus leaf strap work and a hatched ground. On canvas.Condition
With some minor discolouration, the painting is in overall, very fine condition. Small area of abrasion to the paint at the very lower left edge, likely from previous framing. The frame has some tarnishing and a loss at the upper right corner.
