Description

A delightful study of an elderly man staring wistfully into the fire amongst a grand library with classic Victorian decor. The artists is clearly influenced by Rembrandt's shorthand drawing style with the use of fluid line and subtle tones. With watercolour wash and fixed at the corners to backing board. Inscribed 'Field, Dobies Article, Books with which one has lived many years and with which one would like to grow old' on the reverse. Signed. On wove.

Condition

There is scattered foxing across the page and some light surface scratches to the upper left corner.
