H.B. Simpson - 1883 Watercolour York Minster from the Foss

Description

A fine watercolour depicting a view of York Minster from the River Foss. Presented in a white mount and an ornate 19th-century gilt frame with floral and foliate moulding at the corners and crown glazing. Signed and dated to the lower-left edge. The artist is possibly Harry B. Simpson (fl.1886-1888), a London-based painter who exhibited two works at the RA. On watercolour paper.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some mild discolouration. There are some minor creases at the upper-right and lower-left edges. There are some small losses and areas of restoration to the frame. Overall very well presented and in good condition.
