Gwyneth Willitt - Contemporary Watercolour Pont Fawr, Llanrwst, Wales

Description

A view from the river of the Grade I-listed Pont Fawr, a narrow, three-arched stone bridge said to have been designed by Inigo Jones. It was built in 1636 by Sir Richard Wynn (son of Sir John Wynn) of Gwydir Castle. The bridge connects the town with Gwydir, a manor house dating from 1492, the 15th-century courthouse known as Tu Hwnt i'r Bont and also with the road from nearby Trefriw. Presented in a grey mount. Inscribed with the location to the lower-left edge and signed to the lower-right edge. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There are some mild scuffs to the edges of the mount but overall in fine condition.

Collection Information

Prolific in both her local area and beyond, the Welsh artist Gwyneth Willitt is a member of the Conwy Valley Art Society and devotes most of her time to working in oils and watercolours. Covering a wide array of subjects including prominent Welsh landmarks, still life, and the British coastline, as well as Scottish and Canadian landscapes, Willitt has a characterful approach to form and palette.

Her vibrant style includes both realist and more impressionistic works. While many are signed, all are by the artist's hand.
