Artist Biography

Guy Bardone was a French painter, watercolorist, lithographer, and illustrator, born in Saint-Claude in the Jura region of France in 1927. In 1945, he began his formal artistic training at L’École des Arts Décoratifs, where he studied under the renowned figure and landscape painter Maurice Brianchon, himself a pupil of Pierre Bonnard.Bardone first exhibited his work in 1952 at Le Salon de la Nationale d’Automne and Le Salon des Jeunes Peintres. Over the following decades, he held numerous solo exhibitions in Paris, Poitiers, Grenoble, London, and New York, and participated in the Biennale de Paris in 1959 and 1961. His contributions to French art were recognized early, earning him the Fénéon Prize in 1952 and the Greenshields Prize in 1957.Primarily a painter of European landscapes, Bardone also created evocative still lifes and figure paintings. His work is celebrated for its gentle, warm, and atmospheric qualities, conveying a serene sense of tranquility. Retrospective exhibitions of his art were held at the Château de Chenonceau in 1985 and 2000. His works are part of the collections of the Musée National d’Art Moderne and Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as public museums in Bagnols-sur-Céze, Besançon, Poitiers, and Grenoble.Guy Bardone passed away in Oyonnax in 2015 at the age of 87, leaving behind a rich legacy of artistic exploration and subtle beauty.
