Guido Reni Bach (1826-1905) - Mid 20th Century Watercolour, Babes in the Wood
DescriptionA delightful illustration by the Italian artist Guido Reni Bach (1826-1905). The scene depicted is that of the 16th century fairytale 'Babes in the Wood'. Two small children have been lost in the wood, and seek shelter in a pile of leaves. The artist has wonderfully captured the fauna and flora of the forest, highlighted by small touches of bodycolour. Excellently presented in a washline mount, with handwritten inscription. Framed in a gilt frame. Signed. On watercolour paper.
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With areas of damp and mildew to the centre left of the composition, this spreads upwards towards the tree line. Minor marks to the frame, with a screw hole to the right hand side.
