Gregoire Boonzaier - 20th Century Linoprint A Street in District Six

Description

A striking lino print by South African artist Gregoire Boonzaier (1909–1995), smartly presented in a black frame. The scene depicts a street in District Six, an area of Cape Town demolished by the apartheid government. Many of its inhabitants were forcibly removed, with the intention that a new white-only neighbourhood would be built there. Boonzaier was a vocal opponent of the demolition of District Six. He frequently depicted it in his work, celebrating the area and the people that lived there. Unsigned. On paper.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and slight undulation to the paper. Light wear to the frame. The artwork is in very good condition overall.
