Mind has expertly interlaced watercolour with delicate lines of graphite to create a fine compositional balance in this animal portrait study. The naturalistic colour schemes paired with an accurate eye for detail, wonderfully highlights the intricacies of the cats form. The gentle and considered brushstrokes in Mind's exquisite watercolour studies, bring a sense of immediacy and life to the pictures.
Well presented in a card mount and a speckled gilt frame, as shown. Inscribed on reverse.
Unsigned. On watercolour paper.Overall in good condition. There are signs of some foxing and general discolouration in the picture, particularly on the edges near the mount. The frame contains some very minor scuffed edges, resulting in some losses.

Gottfried Mind (1768–17 November, 1814) was an autistic savant who was a gifted painter. He created many paintings of animals, and was commonly known as Cat-Raphael due to the excellence with which he painted cats. Gottfried is the earliest recorded example of the existence of Autism.
