A striking study showing a young woman looking into a dresser mirror by Swedish artist Gösta Bjelke. The enigmatic character of the sitter has been beautifully visualised by Bjelke in rich tones and a distinctively modern style. Well presented in a wood frame with gilt detail and woven slip. Inscribed indistinctly on the reverse. Signed. On wove.

Condition

There is a light mark to the upper edge of the frame. Otherwise the condition of the artwork is fine.

Artist Biography

Born in 1904, Gösta Bjelkebo was a Swedish artist and illustrator. He studied at the Valand School of Painting in Gothenburg and travelled across France and Holland gaining inspiration for his vivid landscape scenes. He has participated in several joint exhibitions across Sweden and has worked as a freelance illustrator for comics and novels. Several of his large scale public murals can be found in Stockholm.
