Metcalfe produced vibrant landscape views, seascapes and expressive portraits in a distinct but varying style, with clear influences from Cubism, Japanese Ukiyo-e landscapes and the realist artistic movements of the 20th Century.
An excellent, large collection of accomplished watercolour, gouache and oil paintings by the British artist Gordon Metcalfe (1935-2024). Metcalfe produced vibrant landscape views, seascapes and expressive portraits in a distinct but varying style, with clear influences from both Cubism and Japanese Ukiyo-e and Edo landscapes, as well as the realist artistic movements of the 20th Century. Some of the artist's work can be found at the Bushey Museum & Art Gallery in Hertfordshire, England.
