Artist Biography

Glo Williams' work emanates from her love of the figure, fabrics, texture and colour. She works in a variety of media including charcoal, pastel, watercolour and oil. She has exhibited widely in the West Country, Wales and nationally. She has also had a number of solo exhibitions. Glo is currently best known for her distinctive figure drawing and colourful still life paintings. She aims ultimately to express energy and spontaneity in her work.

Glo Williams attended the West of England College of Art, Bristol, where she studied painting and sculpture, and specialised in fashion and design. After graduating with Honours she lectured at Swansea College of Art. Here she became Head of Department for Fashion: a post she held for seven years. On returning to Bristol, Glo continued to develop her drawing and painting skills. Over the last three decades her work has evolved continually and has been exhibited widely. She has been a gallery artist in several galleries in the region and in Wales. Glo has drawn inspiration from travel in France, Holland, Turkey, India, Nepal and South Africa: places that have provided new material for her vibrant studies.
Glo has been a gallery artist with The Albany Gallery, Cardiff, since 1996 having had solo exhibitions and joint shows and exhibited at summer and Christmas shows. She has also exhibited regularly with Workshop Wales, since 1999.

Glo has exhibited with the Mall Galleries, London, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, The Pastel Society, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Recently she has had a successful solo exhibition at the West of England Academy New Gallery. Glo exhibits with the Bath Society of Artists, and has been awarded The Brownsword Prize for painting, The Society's Award for drawing and the Les Mathews Award, also for painting.
