A delightful watercolour landscape by Gladys Dawson capturing Conway Castle and the surrounding town. This particular composition was exhibited at the Royal Cambrian Academy. Inscribed on the reverse. Well presented in a white frame with gilt detail. Signed. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and foxing. With minor marks and small losses to the corners.

Artist Biography
Gladys Dawson was a renowned artist in watercolour, who made records of windmills, castles and old buildings as well as birds and the smaller mammals of the British Isles.
She was born in Rochdale, Lancashire the daughter of a bootmaker, she occasionally exhibited under her married name of Woodruff. Gladys studied at Heatherley's School of Fine Art, from 1936 to 1939 where her tutors included R.O. Dunlop, Paul Drury and Frederic Whiting. After the completing of her education Dawson worked as a commercial artist designing textiles for the likes of Liberty's, greetings cards for Raphael Tuck and Valentine and book jackets.
Dawson was a member of RCamA from 1946, SWA from 1953, becoming its vice-president and later President. Dawson also showed with the RI, RWA, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and at the MAFA. She had a number of solo exhibitions including several in Colwyn Bay, North Wales from 1947 to 1954 and the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead have examples of her work.
