Painted with broad, bold brushstrokes, French artist Georges Joubin (1888-1983) captures this verdant garden scene in vibrant colour. Signed to the lower left. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is some wear and dirtying around the edges of the canvas, but overall the condition is good. Faint black mark to the upper left.

Artist Biography

Alfred Flavien Georges Joubin (1888-1983) was a French painter. Having been orphaned at a young age, he received his artistic training at the Académie Julian and then at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris. In 1912, he settled in the artists' colony "Les Fusains" in Montmartre, Paris. He participated in the founding of the École de Montmartre, whose manifesto proclaimed: "we believe we can create a work not nourished by abstraction, but plunging into the very roots of life." A street in Digny, his birthplace, now bears his name.
