A fine print from the etching revival period by George Woolliscroft Rhead RE (1867-1920). He has wonderfully captured a middle aged gentleman with a weather worn face. Possibly published for one of the various art journals and magazines of the period. Well presented in a white card mount. Signed in plate. On laid.Condition
The condition is very good overall. With some very minor discolouration and foxing.

Artist Biography
George Woolliscroft Rhead was a painter and ceramic artist born in Newcastle-under-Lyme. He was the son of the artist-potter George Woolliscroft Rhead Snr, (c.1832-1908) and the brother of Louis John Rhead (1857-1926) with whom he sometimes collaborated. Initially, he served an apprenticeship with Minton's but subsequently trained as a painter with Ford Madox Brown and as an etcher with Alphonse Legros at the Slade School of Fine Art. In addition to working as a painter and etcher, he was also a muralist and stained glass designer and wrote or illustrated at least twelve books. From 1896, he taught at Putney School of Art and became director of Southwark Polytechnic Institute in London. From 1873, he exhibited at Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and Dudley Gallery. Rhead was elected a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1883 and the Art Workers' Guild in 1890. In 1914 he married the artist Annie French who outlived him by 45 years.
