A very fine panoramic landscape, possibly depicting North Wales by the English artist George Turner. Here the artist has captured a quiet valley with a lone figure at the river's edge. Distant mountains dominate the skyline and the idyllic river can be traced into the distance. The painting is signed to the reverse 'Geo Turner' also inscribed with a possible location 'from Sister...Dollen, Polly(?)' and dated February 1906. Also inscribed in graphite 'Vale of Dolwyddelan, N. Wales 1846', this could possibly reference the watercolour study by David Cox (1783-1859) of Dolwyddelan painted and exhibited in 1846.
On drawing board.There are areas of paint loss to the edges and corners of the board. There is some craquelure to the surface and surface dirt. Very fine scratch marks have been filled in.

His pupils included his son, William Lakin Turner (1867-1929) and Luis Bosworth Hurt (1856-1929), who also lived near Barrow-on-Trent and is renowned for his Scottish landscapes with highland cattle.
George Turner's pictures are usually signed Geo. Turner or G.Turner and inscribed on the back with the title and his address at the time.
