A fine late 19th Century restrike etching by the artist George Montbard (1841-1904), depicting a male figure or body, washed up on the shore amongst large waves and a stormy sky. Signed in the plate. On wove.Condition
In good condition overall, for a picture of this age. There is some surface dirt and discolouration, including some light foxing to the right border. With plate lines.

Artist Biography
George Montbard (1841-1905) was a French artist, illustrator and caricaturist, born Charles Auguste Loye in Montbard, France. He worked as an illustrator and caricaturist on Chronique Illustré, and then in 1868 for the Illustrated London News.
After being involved in the Paris Commune in 1871 he was proscribed in France and moved to England, where he contributed to The Graphic, Judy, Funny Folks (including "Comic Fancy Page", 1874), and many other magazines including Vanity Fair. In 1882 Vincent van Gogh, who was also working for the Illustrated London News, mentioned receiving sketches by him of the Channel Islands. He was buried in Brittany on 5th August 1905.
