A fine watercolour painting with body colour highlights, by the British artist George Lance. The scene depicts a still life composition with peaches and grapes. Signed and dated to the lower right-hand corner. Well-presented in a double, oval card mount and in a distressed gilt effect frame. On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Some marks to the mount and small scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

George Lance (1802-1864) was an English painter of still life and portrait miniatures. He is known for his fruit-pieces and pictures of dead game, painted with great richness of colour and truthfulness to nature. Lance died at the residence of his son - Sunnyside, near Birkenhead - on 18 June 1864.
