Artist Biography
George Kennerley was a painter, born in London. He was the son of a violinist who was killed in World War I. Kennerley worked in advertising at Selfridge’s but soon became involved in the Liverpool business world which eventually led to him becoming managing Director of Vernons Pools. During World War II he ran factories involved in munition manufacturing but all the time continued as a self-taught artist. After the cessation of hostilities, Kennerley attended Bath Academy, Corsham where he was tutored by William Brooker and William Scott. A man of some means he collected paintings across a range of styles from Impressionist to Abstract and his favoured artists included Vuillard, Bonnard, Bomberg and Scott. Ken as he was known exhibited at the RA, Leicester Galleries, Crane Kalman Gallery and with the ACGB. Towards the end of his life, he was a member of the Liver Sketching Club.
