Signs of wear consistent with age. A small patch repair can be seen to the reverse of the canvas. Inspection under UV light reveals minor restoration and overpainting. Signs of wear to the gilt frame including stable cracking to the running pattern and small moulding repairs. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.

A West Country artist who painted throughout Devon and Cornwall in both oil and watercolour. He is reported as an active artist between 1870 and 1910. From 1873 to 1880 he lived at 10 Saltram Terrace, Plympton, Devon near Plymouth. He also exhibited work painted in North Wales.
