Description

A striking landscape by George Gault (1916-2001). Humble cottages are dotted around the water's edge, dwarfed by the imposing mountains that rise beyond. Gault employs an expressive style with subtle impasto to provide the piece with texture and vitality. A label affixed to the reverse identifies the location as the Rosses in County Donegal, Ireland. Signed to the lower right. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

Overall, the artwork is in very good condition. Craquelure and some slight discolouration. Small loss to the paint near the upper margin. Light wear to the frame, including some cracking and overpainting to the lower right.
