George Edgar Treweek - Early 20th Century Watercolour, On the Cornish Coast
Item Sold
Description
George Edgar Treweek - Original Early 20th Century Watercolour. Watercolour with bodycolour. G E Treweek (1869—1961) was born at Redruth in 1869, the son of a bank clerk and later, manager. In 1891 he was still living in the family home at Trengweath, Redruth and is described as an artist. Possibly he did not find this a financial success as by 1911 he was boarding in Plymouth and working as a bank clerk. He first exhibited with RCPS in 1886 (when he was classed as an Amateur), but by 1888 was included in the Professional section, exhibiting regularly until 1910. In 1927-8 he is recorded as living in Stowmarket, Suffolk, exhibiting with Ipswich Arts Club although his subjects were Devon and Cornish scenes. He was not involved with St Ives Society of Artists until 1937 (and then only infrequently), but by the time of their 1947 tour he was a resident of Newquay; by 1957 he was living in Burnham, Buckinghamshire. His death aged 92, was registered in the Maidenhead RD in 1961. In fine condition.Size
