A charming portrait study depicting a jolly cavalier drinking from a flute. He perches on a low table, holding his glass up to the viewer in a cheery manner. Signed to the lower right. Presented in a black varnished frame with a gilt window. On canvas.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, there is some light wear to the far edges of the canvas and to the frame.

Artist Biography
Born in Secunderabad, Madras, George Derville Rowlandson studied art at Gloucester School of Art, Westminster School of Art and in Paris. He exhibited at the ROI and contributed illustrations to the Illustrated London News and the English Illustrated Magazine, his work being mostly military or equestrian subjects, and a number of hunting scenes. He frequently signed as G.D.R and he died in London.
