Painter, born in Birmingham as Cecil George Busby. He studied part-time at Birmingham School of Art in 1944. Known as George Busby, he was however, mainly self-taught and was elected an Associate of the RBSA in 1971 becoming a full member six years later. For many years he worked as a graphic designer and illustrator and was elected SGA in 1979. One of the Midlands foremost designers he retired from his profession as a display artist in order to concentrate on his painting. A Member of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, his work has been exhibited at the Mall Galleries, Dudley Museum and Art Gallery, Pentagon Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent, Lenon Galleries, Cornwall.
Busby has held solo exhibitions at the New Art Gallery, Birmingham and The Compendium Galleries, Birmingham. His later work has been executed using acrylic that has replaced the artist’s early work in oils. As a graphic designer, his commissions included illustrations for calendars issued by Amoco Oil Company, Abbey National Building Society, British Gas and British Waterways. A member of the Guild of Railway Artists, his work has been reproduced in the Guild’s publication 'To the Seaside'. The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth holds examples of the artist’s work. More recently he has exhibited at the John Noott Galleries, Broadway.
