George Baxter - Framed c.1843 Baxter Method Print Reverend John Williams
Description
A Baxter print of the Rev. John Williams, a missionary in the 19th century. His family were well regarded within missionary circles, he voyaged to the Society Islands, a group of islands that included Tahiti in 1817 where he converted locals to Christianity. In November 1839, while visiting a part of the New Hebrides where John Williams was unknown, he and fellow missionary James Harris were killed and eaten by cannibals.
Well presented in a double card mount and fluted wooden frame with brass name plate.
Unsigned. On wove.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With a tear to the upper right corner. Tear to lower edge measuring 3cm. Minor marks to the frame.
