Description

A leafy landscape at dusk with a pair of figures conversing over a wall in the foreground. Presented in a gilt frame with leaf and berry moulding to the outer edge and a gilt-effect slip. Signed to the lower-right edge. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There is some discolouration to the varnish and stable craquelure. There are some marks and scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography

George A. Boyle (1842-1932) was a little-known painter who showed at the RA, RBA, ROI and the 1901 census records him as living in Lewisham, London, where he died. Examples of Boyle's paintings are held by Erewash Borough Council, Museums Sheffield, and the William Morris Gallery.
