Description

This charming impressionistic work by Geoffrey Burrows (1934-2023) transports the viewer to a sunny British high street in the 1980s. Cars line the wide street beneath verdant trees, while figures stroll beneath vibrant shop signs. Signed and dated in the lower left. On board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age. Some discolouration to the surface and wear around the edges of the board. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration.

Artist Biography

Born in St Faiths, Norfolk, Geoffrey Burrows (1934-2023) was educated at The Paston Grammar School, North Walsham. He worked as a telecommunications engineer and then a BT manager, but pursued painting alongside this from the 1960s after attending an art class at Sprowston School. He has exhibited extensively, including with the Norwich Art Circle and Bury St Edmunds Art Society. He has also exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London, Royal Academy, Royal Society of Marine Artists, Paris Salon, West of England Academy, and Llewellyn Alexandra Gallery. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Norfolk County Council and Norwich Union Insurance Co. He is a member of the Norwich and Norfolk Art Circle. Sue Willmer, chairman, said: “His beautiful work was created with the delicacy and sureness of an artist at the peak of his creativity whose skill was greatly admired.”
