Geoff Ogden NSA (1929-1997) - c.1960 Pastel The Reflection

Description

An oil pastel painting depicting a dark figure observing their reflection in a mirror. A vase of orange flowers fills the lower half of the painting. Presented in a white painted canvas mount and a thin wooden frame. Monogrammed to the lower-left edge. Inscribed to the reverse.

Condition

There is a small tear to the top-left corner of the paper measuring 1.5cm. There are some small marks to the frame. Overall in good condition.

Artist Biography

Geoff Ogden (1929-1997) was a painter, born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. Largely self-taught, he studied for a limited period at Manchester School of Art. He began painting in the Pennines where he grew up before relocating to West Cornwall in 1965. He is best known for his pictures of the Cornish landscape but subjects are also drawn from his home and family. His first solo exhibition was at Fieldborne Galleries, London and other exhibitions include touring shows that were seen in Southport Art Gallery, Oldham Art Gallery, Doncaster Art Gallery, and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool in 1971. He has also held solo shows in London, Newlyn, Exeter, Falmouth and Penzance. He was included in RWA Artists from Cornwall exhibition in 1992. Ogden was a member of Newlyn Society of Artists and examples of his work are held by Atkinson Art Gallery, Doncaster Art Gallery, Liverpool University Art Collection, MOMA, Wales, Oldham Art Gallery.
