G. Rousselon - Framed Mid 20th Century Oil Road to Town

Description

A pale track curves away between grassy banks towards a small valley town, with its church tower set against soft blue hills. Bare winter poplars and pollarded trees frame the view, while the greens, chalky whites and cool blues keep the scene fresh and open, with quick, textured brushwork in the foliage and sky. The painting is well presented in a gilt-effect frame with velvet slip. Signed lower left. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including light surface discolouration and yellowing to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of restoration and overpainting. Tears to the canvas have been previously restored. The frame has minor surface wear and scuffs. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
