A very fine late 19th Century oil showing a hay covered farm courtyard. A woman holds a horse by its reins with two other horses tethered by harnesses to each other behind. A farmer can be seen departing through the gate with a train of white horses. The artist has beautiful captured the soft late afternoon sunlight that glances off the trees and casts long shadows from the departing horses feet. The artist has signed and dated to the lower left and the painting has been presented in a substantial gilt effect frame. On canvas.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some craquelure to the surface. Inspection under UV light reveals some areas of restoration. There are several small losses to the paint in the upper right corner. There is some slack to the canvas at the upper right. There are several canvas repairs to the reverse which have been fully restored at the front.
