G H Holloway - Original 1965 Pen and Ink Drawing. From a pencil sketch by FM Rineg. Inscribed and dated. In fine condition.

From an album of sketches dated August 1964 to 1966 by George Henry Holloway (1883-1976). Holloway was elected Entertaining Member (or Blue Feather) of the Bristol Savages in 1923. Little is known about him before this point except that he served in the First World War as a Staff Captain in the Royal Artillery, and that he was in business with the local printing firm of Holloway and Sons. At the time he became a Blue Feather he was already a well known entertainer. He was an elocutionist and specialised in monologues. He also made over a thousand broadcasts for the BBC, was a past member of the Bristol Playgoers` Society and a life member of the British Empire Shakespeare Society. He was a talented painter, mainly in watercolour. Whilst at the Annual Exhibition, to which he exhibited from 1962 to 1977, he concentrated on landscapes. In contrast to this he also produced some fine black and white illustrations that were published in the Bristol Illustrated News.
