A fisherman casts his line into a placid river while washerwomen work on the far bank. Two wooden bridges span the water, and town buildings can be seen beyond. Indistinctly signed to the lower left, possibly "Vallancienne." Well presented in an antique gilt frame with beaded and ribbon running patterns and acanthus leaf corner ornamentation. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Restorative work, including a canvas tear repair and areas of overpainting. Wear and small losses to the paint around the edges of the canvas. Scuffs and losses to the frame. Parts of the running patterns have been remoulded and repainted.
