French School - 18th Century Oil L'Escarpolette

Description

Young women sit on a swing while other figures dance and play musical instruments in this whimsical scene. The scene is framed within two great boughs, which arch to form the support for the swing, and is set against a pale blue sky and distant hills. Well presented in a distressed gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. There are three canvas tear repairs, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Scuffs and wear to the frame. Signs of historic woodworm to the frame, which has been fully treated. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
