Frederick Tully Lott - Framed Late 19th Century Oil A Corpus Christi Procession
Description
A detailed late 19th-century genre painting by Frederick Tully Lott (1828-1899). A tall church spire rises at the centre of the street scene, flanked by steep gabled houses that crowd in from either side of a sloping cobbled lane. Below, figures pause to witness the Corpus Christi procession outside the church, while warm stone and timber tones give way to a pale, cloud-swept sky. The painting is well presented in a gilt effect frame with acanthus ornamentation at the corners. Signed lower right and dated (18)95. On canvas.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure observed throughout. Light surface discolouration including yellowing to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of previous restoration. The canvas has been relined. The frame has minor surface wear. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age.
