Frederick Thurlby (1865–1946) - Framed 1927 Oil Fifth & Last
Description
A fine equine portrait by the travelling livestock painter Fred Thurlby (1865–1946). Here Thurlby captures a prize worthy thoroughbred standing in profile. Beautifully presented in a well patinated giltwood frame. Signed and dated 1927. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Inspection under UV light reveals numerous areas of overpainting to the canvas, particularly to the lower half of the composition. Several patch repairs have been made to the reverse of the canvas, carefully concealed by overpainting to the front. A fine build up of dirt has left the painting with a discoloured appearance.
