Frederick Cook was born in Hampstead, and attended his local Hampstead Art School. His holidays in his early years were spent in the West Country and not surprisingly after World War II he settled in Cornwall. During the War, he was a member Firemen Artists and during his exhibiting career he showed at Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal West of England Academy, Leicester Galleries, Redfern Gallery and Trafford Gallery. The Imperial War Museum and Plymouth Art Gallery have examples of his work. After settling in Polperro, he joined the St. Ives Society of Artists where he worked from a studio in Polperro. His work was reproduced in periodicals that included Sphere, Tatler and Studio Magazine. His wife Margaret Rosemary Anyon Cook, (1914-2003) was an illustrator who worked on books by Enid Blyton.
