A delightful depiction of a quiet country lane with young boy on horseback, driving sheep past rural cottages. The watercolour has been signed by the artist to the lower right. Beautifully mounted in a fine gilt frame. On watercolour paper.

Artist Biography

Frederick James Knowles (1874-1931) was an architect and a landscape and figure painter. He was the brother of George Sheridan Knowles. He was born in Manchester and exhibited at Manchester City Art Gallery, the Walker Gallery Liverpool, the RA, RCA, and the RI. He lived near Oswestry and is best known for his views of rural Wales.
