A very fine watercolour study of the River Avon by the eminent British artist Frederick Henry Henshaw (1807-1891). This wonderfully detailed landscape is full of movement and interest, with touches of white gouache used to emphasize the power of the falling water. Henshaw was known for his studies of the Midlands and North Wales after a tour of Europe inspired his love of landscapes.
This delightful watercolour is very well presented in a double card washline mount and gilt frame. Inscribed to the lower left corner 'River Avon near Stratford. With printed biography on the reverse.
Signed and dated. On watercolour paper.The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing. With minor marks to the frame. Overall in good condition.

Frederick Henry Henshaw was born in 1807 in Birmingham. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from the age of 22, he went on to exhibit over 35 paintings at the academy. Henshaw was best known for his detailed and idyllic studies of rural British landscapes. He died in 1891.
