Artist Biography
Frederick Edward Joseph Goff was a London topographical painter born in 1855. He specialised in painting views of late Victorian London in watercolour on a small scale. Using a magnifying glass, Goff was able to skilfully paint complicated architectural subjects in the minutest detail. His works were exhibited at the Royal Academy, the New Watercolour Society, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and the Glasgow Institute of Art. Goff's depictions of the sights and moods of life along the London bridges and outside many famous London buildings earned him a reputation during his lifetime, and his works are as popular today as they were then.
