Artist Biography
Frederic Yates (1854–1919) was born in England, where, after an early career in business, he began painting at age 28, first travelling to America, then to Paris where he studied with Leon Bonnat. He later visited Italy, China and Japan. Returning to England, he settled in Rydal in the Lake District, where he became a founding member of the Lake Artists’ Society in 1904.
