František Burant ( February 13, 1924 Železná u Berouna - July 17, 2001 Prague ) was a Czech glassmaker and graphic artist .
During the war he worked as a clerk in a brewery or a worker in a foundry and a textile factory. Only after the war could he graduate from the State Graphic School and the Academy of Arts , Architecture and Design in Prague (Prof. Kaplický ). At the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague he worked as an assistant for the glass art department in 1951-1960, moved to Prague with his family in 1967, became an associate professor at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in 1969 . figural drawing for plastic fields. In addition to glassmaking, he devoted himself to graphics and illustrations.
He was a member of the group UB 12 (originally called 14 UB by number of members) together with the following personalities: Vaclav Bartovský , Vaclav Bostik , Vladimir Janousek , Věra Janoušková , George John , Stanislav Kolíbal , Jiri Mrazek , Daisy Mrázková , Vlasta Prachatická , Oldrich Smutny , Adrien Šimotová , Alois Vitík and Jiří Šetlík . In 1962 Alena Kučerová joined and two years later Jaromír Zemina.
The core of the future group began to form as early as the 1950s around Václav Bartovský. They consisted of a group of artists who studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, such as Mrázek, Jiří John, Adriena Šimotová, Stanislav Kolíbal, Vlasta Prachatická.
The second key figure at the birth of UB 12 was Václav Boštík, whose studio held an exhibition of works by Stanislav Kolíbal, Jiří Mrázek, Daisy Mrázková, Jiří John and Adriena Šimotová in 1953. The first public performance before the band was set up was an exhibition in the Hall of Aleš in 1957, attended by Burant, Kolíbal, Prachatická, John and Šimotová. At that time, however, the group was still part of the SČVU. It did not become independent until 1961.), later the Hollar Association of Czech Graphic Artists and SVU Manes.
His works are in the collections of NG Prague, GHMP, regional GVU, etc. [1] Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and abroad (Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, India and other countries).
