Frank W. Longshaw RCamA (1864-1914) - 19th Century Watercolour View in Sussex

Description

A delightful watercolour landscape from Frank W. Longshaw (1864-1914). The artist has depicted an idyllic country scene, with a shepherd herding his flock and a church in the distance. Well known for his landscapes and delicate style, he was a great friend of Anderson Hague RI, one of the Royal Cambrian Academy founders and they often painted together. Inscribed with the location 'Sussex', possibly indicating this was completed before Longshaw move to Wales in the mid 1880's. On wove laid to card. Signed.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and minor foxing. The paper has slightly warped from being incorrectly laid to a piece of backing card.

Artist Biography

Born in 1864 and know as a watercolour landscape painter who was based in Gwynedd, Wales. Longshaw was an Associate of the RCamA and also showed at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, RA, RBA, RI and at the MAFA. His death was recorded at Conway, Caernarvonshire.
