Description
Full of energy and colour, this delightful study shows a villa garden bursting with summer flowers. Currently in the wrong spot, a sundial sits in the shade beside a landscaped path that runs to the main villa door. The garden looks well maintained with perennials popping against the peachy facade of two giant chimney breasts. Beautifully housed in a deep-sided frame. Signed.On wood panel.
Condition
The painted panel has split in several places with horizontal lines running in three places across the image. However the oil has been housed in a beautiful frame and is safe and secure under glass.

Artist Biography
Black was a well-respected artist. He exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He was also a colleague of the Group of Seven, and shared their initial profession, commercial art. He retired to Georgetown with his wife Lillian in the early 1950s. He was then able to devote himself fully to painting, teaching and mentoring many area artists. He died in 1988.
